In 2023, the art world will pay tribute to the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso on the 50th anniversary of his death.

"Celebración Picasso 1973-2023" is a program consisting of 50 exhibitions and events to commemorate the artist's legacy. The majority of the shows will take place in Spain and France, with other countries including the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Monaco, Romania, and Belgium also participating.

The exhibitions will offer different perspectives on Picasso's work, including his influences and contemporaries, his artistic stages, and contemporary interpretations.

Some institutions have already begun showcasing Picasso's work, and others will open throughout 2023, including those at the Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.Spain will have 17 exhibitions throughout the year, including in Madrid, Málaga, and La Coruña.

The events will culminate in a colloquium at the Centre de Études Picasso in Paris in autumn 2023.
